The Florida Keys sit atop one of the most productive reef systems in North America. Just miles offshore from Robbie's Marina, the reef edge drops into deep water — and in winter, it absolutely loads up with fish.
Why Winter is Prime Time
Cooler water temperatures concentrate baitfish over the reef structure. That draws in everything that feeds on them — snapper, grouper, kingfish, amberjack, and more. Winter also means calmer seas on average, making for more comfortable trips offshore.
What You'll Catch
Yellowtail Snapper
Year-round reef staple, abundant in winter
Mutton Snapper
Prized table fare, active over structure
Black Grouper
Deep structure fish, excellent eating
King Mackerel
Aggressive trolling target along reef edge
Amberjack
Powerful fighters over deep wrecks
Cobia
Often found near buoys and wrecks in winter
The San Pedro Wreck
Just 1 mile from Robbie's sits the San Pedro — a 287-year-old Spanish galleon resting in 18 feet of water. It's an underwater archaeological preserve, but the surrounding area is a magnet for fish. Snapper and grouper stack up on the structure year-round.
